There definitely *is* such a rumour. It's even mentioned several places 
on this thread that they were produced until 2004. I doubt that none 
have been manufactured after that when the model is listed on the 
distributor's list and several shops claim to have it in stock - 
especially if there was a shortage last year.

But I suppose people are confusing a (possibly temporary) production 
halt with discontinuation of the model. I bet that most "current" Pentax 
equipment is out of production right now, but that does not mean that it 
will never be produced again. They probably produce most of it in 
batches and/or "on order" (which, I've been told, is a lot easier to do 
with current production equipment than it was a few years ago.)
