One thing which came out loud and clear in the interview is that Pentax are
fully aware of our past grievances.
K100D and K10D clearly showed it more than we expected. These models have
most everything we have been screaming for and some.
The necessity to show the upgrade path is another such thing which has been
sorely missing in their marketing. It was difficult to see how things would
unfold in the future.
I hope the sales of k100D/K10D would give Pentax the needed motivation as
well as the capital to press on further. They now realized how the market
would respond when they boldly challenge it.
The competition is fierce but they demonstrated that Pentax's technical
prowess is still there. Actually, they proved that they have stronger
ability than we anticipated in terms of image processing engineering etc.
They are now a very strong contender in this area and can compete head on
with Canon etc.
I love Pentax but not necessarily the evangelist :-). But it is always nice
to see that a company who was long considered an underdog came out this
strong and is motivated well to challenge the next phase. This will keep
the big 2 honest, things become more interesting and we all benefit from it.
