It wasn't just hype. Exactly the same situation is with modern Minolta lenses. My friend who had FA 50/1.7 met his friend with Minolta AF 50/1.7. Minolta user complained about flare visible in the viewfinder. It was jaw-dropping experience for him when he looked in my friend's MZ-S' viewfinder ;-)
