John, please accept our best wishes of finding a new job ASAP.

I once met a guy, way older than me, who being fired himself once was in 
the position of power in some company. Company dealing with software of 
course. I am a programmer, remember? :-). So he told me that always, no 
exception, when he had to fire someone, it was some kind of personal 
reason. I can also add to it that the only time I was fired myself, it 
was personal. And two times when I decided to walk away on my own, it 
was for personal reasons either...

I do hope my comment is not too brutal though it is honest.

So my humble suggestion here would be to take a deep breath, say a week 
long relaxation and then just go and find yourself a new job. There must 
be another place where you could work, and I am certain you are able to 
find it.
