I dont feel that quality is the only issue with
the term "classic", I feel it can only be proven
to be a classic with the test of time (i.e. long term enduring).
If I had to classify any pentax lenses as true "classics"
at this point it would be the super multi coated
takumars, and not for ultimate optical performance reasons
either. To, me the ultimate "classic" lens is the Zeiss
Tessar of 1903! Its design is still used today it is/was
so good for only 4 lens elements. Now that's a classic.

Tried any of the FA Limited's?

The FA*200 f2.8, from my brief experience with it, is an excellent
performer.

The Limited's & FA* lenses are modern classics IMHO.
