well, MOSFET is simply the most known type of FET. There are some others 
like J-FET or  "mixed bipolar and FET" IGBT transistors around us every 
day. For example, nearly all car electronic ignition systems utilize 
IGBT as ignitor - an electronic equivalent of contact breaker used in 
classic ignition systems.
