Hello Doug,

There are two major directions with the portable devices.  One is to
provide a screen with viewing capabilities to review pictures.  The
other is a simple storage device that just stores the images.

The Epson is a viewing style and arguably the best of that type.  The
CompactDrive is the simple type.  So the screen is a simple LCD that
just shows copying confirmation and sizes of things, etc.  Not a whole
lot, just enough to do the task.  So the usage of the screen is really
not much drain.  The batteries used are Nimh and you could probably
get more out of some lithiums if need be.
