The upside of Apple's design to incorporate the RAW processing fundamentals into OS frameworks (primarily for iPhoto and Aperture to use) is that anything which uses the graphics frameworks can render them to the screen. The downside is the somewhat lethargic pace of adding processing for new and more different RAW formats.
