It's sad what they have done to Goldens, they have gone from being a great dog to one that will probably break your heart in very short order. Hip and elbow displasia are really common, and they are now prone to early heart failure, and a host of other genetic problems. It boils down to making sure your breeder has done his homework, and at the very least, the sire and dam should have eye, hip and elbow clearances. Any breeder that tells you he isn't having health problems in his program either hasn't been at it for long, or is a liar. It doesn't matter how reputable the breeder is, there are going to be problems in any breed of dog now.
