Hi Tim

I used SR today with the monopod and the K10D and Pentax 70-210mm at 1/90
and it worked very well.
greetings
Markus

I will do a follow up, and test at less critical speeds. I feel pretty
confident that SR does not have any effect using critical shutter speeds,
but it might have negative effect using other speeds.

I'll probably report back on this later.

Subject: Testing: SR and gimbal mount

I have been very curious on the impact of SR on gimbal mount and tripod. I
was really hoping it could give me an extra hand. The manual tells me to
shut SR off on tripod, but I have been hoping it was otherwise in a gimbal
mount.
After getting the camera I have been testing a bit, but haven't been able to
draw any conclusions. So I decided to do a semi scientific test.

I used a K-500/4,5 at 1/30 with a Velbon CF-630 (a medium class tripod) at
my lawn. It was rather windy, so I believe the test was rather realistic.
What I did, was simply to shoot 75 shots with SR on, and then 75 more
without. At both series I used basic tripod technique with one hand leaning
on top of the setup, and my nose glued to the LCD.

I put the files in a random queue, to make sure I wasn't biased when judging
the results. I scored them in three categories: 1 junk, 2 so and so, and 3
potential keepers.

The result was disappointing I'm afraid. I found no impact of SR whatsoever.
It may be a bit early to make drastic conclusions based on this, but I do
know that SR does not affect the result at 1/30 with that lens. I may try
again at other speeds and lenses with other weights. But I don't really
believe it will be worth the effort. The positive thing is that the test
also suggests that there is no reason to be afraid of leaving SR on with
gimbal mount at tripod. I believe the manual is over conservative on that
point.
