Don't know, but the 645 was introduced in 1983(4?) and I've heard of no problem with 
the belt. A Pentax repairman told me it was THE Pentax camera with the best track 
record when it comes to both reliability and durability. In fact, many 645's sees a 
hell of a lot of use. The same Pentax repair man told me that some of them had seen 
incredible use so that the film chamber was totally devoid of paint due to wear from 
the film.
