Hi Shel, Back in the sixties, people did some absolutely atrocious things to automobiles with paint that produced a velvet look and texture. It was flocking terrible stuff. I know it came in black, and I bet someone still sells the wretched stuff. And while it may be awful for almost any application, it would probably work quite well as a coating for the inside of lens hoods. Paul
