I've been following the entire FID (FAD/FUD ;-) ) discussion closely, since
I mainly shoot film, but also quite comfortable since I know I can count on
my local film lab to do my slide and B&W development...

...Until last Friday...

When I went up to the shop to drop off a couple rolls of film, I encountered
a van in front of the shop, and people moving stuff out of the building. The
entire lab was already gone. I asked one of the guys there where they were
moving (it was always quite busy in the shop, so it never crossed my mind
they might be closing), but he told me they we closing for good: Too few
customers, too expensive to keep the shop running.

I guess even in a city (Amsterdam) where analog photography is/was quite
common (university's art classes always full, lots of shops selling
equipment and supplies) it's not enough to keep a business running... It's a
shame, since they were one of two pro labs I knew about in the city. Luckily
they kept the supplies shop open...

Regards,

Kamiel
