Yes, no, and maybe.

Advantages:
- water and dust resistance
- reasonable battery life
- SR system can help in low light
- fast buffer
- many of the lenses you might want to carry are reasonably compact  
and lightweight

Disadvantages
- not particularly compact, and a significant bulk and weight if the  
vertical grip is attached
- Need spare battery or batteries, and/or a charger and cord - can't  
buy spare batteries at the local corner store

If I go anyplace on vacation, my K10D goes along. But this week I was  
in a meeting on the edge of Williamsburg VA, a historic site filled  
with photo-ops. For my photography during the couple of hours I had  
during late afternoons after the meetings had adjourned, I took my  
Optio 750. If the K10D were truly "all purpose", it would have made  
the trip with me instead.
