Dave Brooks and I met at Robert's lab (B&W Photo Lab is the official name) here in Toronto on Saturday, went for a couple of beers afterwards, and enjoyed an unseasonably warm early afternoon.
Didn't shoot at all, just sat and chatted. The big news is that Robert's closing up shop and will be working out of his house. The actual reason is that his landlord "needs the space" and the lease is being terminated, but I think Robert will be glad to save the rent. He'll continue to do B&W film developing and printing (whew). Other than that, it was talk about photography and lots of non-photographic discussion as well. While at the lab, I picked up a couple of prints taken from TriX shot in the Leica, and I have to admit, after doing almost nothing but digital since I got the *istD in the spring, I was amazed at the beauty of that monochrome print. No blown out highlights, so much texture and detail in the blacks and dark greys, lovely midtones, perfect grain. I have to shoot more film. Love digital though I do, there's just nothing like film... cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
