Finally made it back home. Almost made it all the way home with the
top down. Finally had to put it up with 50 miles to go :-( At least I
drove around Miami yesterday with it down ;-)

Finally have my MX in hand and can address this issue.

I have a chrome model, bought used, with a 9282797 serial number.
The prism has the AOCo logo and Asahi and Pentax on it. It has Asahi Opt.
Co. on the back of the top plate below the film advance lever. The holder
on the back is not quite square, but seems like it is compared to the
rectangular one on the LX. The holder is metal with no markings. The
chrome tongue inside is 49mm tall.

The on/off switch still has the plastic insert. I was not aware
that these tend to come up missing. The film counter numbers do appear
slightly engraved and matte. The battery cover is engraved with black
letters BATTERY <- OPEN.

                        César Matamoros II
finally back in Panama City, Florida
