Just got off the phone with Pentax USA. My file numbering issue is still
unresolved, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had a solution to
suggest.

Scenario: I have two K10D bodies, say Body A and Body B. Suppose they
have the following # of images each: Body A = 5000 images and Body B =
9000 images. To keep the numbers on each camera sequential I have the MENU
> Rec. Mode > Memory > File No. option checked.

Problem is, when I take a card from Body B and put it into Body A, the
numbering starts in the 9000's. I guess this is good for some because it
helps to avoid duplication. However...

a) Body B is also starting where it left off (albeit with a different
card) so I'm going to get duplication anyway, and

b) Now I've lost the ability to keep track of how many images I've taken
with Body A (because it always skips upward to keep pace with the cards
from the other camera). For events, I shoot with multiple cards so keeping
cards exclusive to each camera would be a pain in the neck, by the way.

So far, my questions are:

1. Using the camera, there is a way for me to figure out the "True" number
of images taken with either body?

2. Even if I reset the numbers to zero by unchecking the MENU > Rec. Mode
> Memory > File No. option and using a fresh card, is there a way to
change my workflow to keep the file numberings exclusive to each camera? I
guess I want the camera (body) to retain the numbering exclusively
internally (independent of the card), but that does not seem like an
option (true / false?) As I've mentioned, using different cards for each
camera exclusively is probably not an option.

Thoughts?
