This brings up the important issue of photographers' hats - one which I don't
think has been discussed here before. I'm not a hat person, but I in hot weather
it's important to wear one for at least 2 reasons.

1. I'm somewhat thin on top, so extended periods in the sun expose me to too
much sunburn, and also leave me with a headache and boiling brain.

2. when I'm photographing I don't wear sunglasses, so a hat should provide shade
for the eyes as protection against glare and cataracts etc.

For a photographer there are several things to avoid:

1. as Christine points out, the bill or rim can easily get in the way, so
baseball caps and suchlike are out

2. nobody in their right mind wants to wear a hat like Cotty's

3. Tilley hats are just plain horrible and should only be worn by middle-aged
men from the flyover states so the rest of us can identify and avoid them

4. W E Smith could get away with it, but please, no berets except where
accompanied by a Gauloise jaune.

So, what's left?

Bob
