Joe, I have the Pentax manual focus versions of the Tokina 100-300mm f4 and the Tokina 150-500mm f5.6, and I regularly handhold both to photograph flying birds and airshows. Like you, I used to think a 100-300mm was heavy, until I tried the 150-500mm - it's 2.23kg, or just under 5lbs!
All you need is intestinal fortitude to handhold these lenses, and remember, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger ;^) Richard. home page: www.richard-seaman.com - -----Original Message----- From: "Kent Gittings" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> It has similar size and weight to the Tokina 100-300/4 I have in Minolta AF mount. It can be hand held as well as any 300/4 lens can be. If you can do one you can do the other. Kent Gittings - -----Original Message----- Subject: Sigma APO 100-300mm f4 EX IF HSM This looks like an interesting lens, and I believe there were good comments on the list about it. On Sigma's web site, it is listed as nearly 1.5 kg., or over 3 lbs. in weight. So my question to those who have used it is: is this a tripod lens, or can it be used hand-held? Thanks, Joe _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
