Bruce, Thanks for the reply. It looks like that is the answer. I had made some assumptions based on what I thought it should do if it had been a super program with an AF280T. My mistake had been in not studying the manual of the MZ-S sufficiently based on these assumptions and not noticing the caveat on the compatibility table which is confusing in itself. The table tells me that the camera switches to the flash sync speed automatically on flash ready. Then on the next line, it says in the programmed AE or shutter priority AE mode the aperture is set automatically. then the little *2 next to it says "for AF280T use the MS(Manual Sync) or Manual mode" which seems to contradict the line about setting the flash sync speed automatically! I know what manual mode is - but what is Manual Sync? "For the AF160 use aperture priority AE, M or B" which makes sense and is what I should have done insted of trying to be clever!
