What I do is this: I took a blower brush, removed the brush (it simply slides off, easy to put back on again) and I blow the strip of negatives or mounted slides (whatever I am scanning at that moment) after I have put them in the scanning holder. Sometimes the scan result is so that I redo this cleaning to remove a particle that escaped the first treatment, but usually this is not needed. I also used a can with compressed air, but it just doesn't last very long, and with the UK prices I didn't want to buy another one.
