Super-A was a reasonably successful top-of-the line Pentax camera. Its principal technology was reused in the first Pentax 645. MZ-5 was also a very successful camera, even if not top-of-the-line. Its principal technology was reused in the 645N.
Based on this, I speculated that the K10D was a Proof of Concept for the (then) upcoming 645D, with its oversized A/D converter and serious attempt at wringing the best possible quality out of every pixel. As we know, the decision to halt the 645D development came later, and then technology was shifted from CCD to CMOS with the K20D. So why stop now that the 645D game is on again? My prediction for the upcoming DSLR is that Pentax will use it as PoC for new stuff they intend to put in the 645D. I would not be surprised if the camera has a CMOS sensor with excellent S/N ratios even at high ISO, and that the technology used to achieve this will be easy to scale up.
