You're assuming the market for 35mm digital (FF) is the same for the
medium format digital. I don't think this is so.
I believe any company with a good and reasonably priced medium format is
going to sell some units. No, not as many as the APS-C cameras, and
probably less than 35mm FF, but still some profit. More if the company
already have some medium format presence. Like Pentax.
Sadly I suspect the 645d will present the same relation to the 645 that
we have between FF and APS sensors - not so much the numeric value, but
the fact they won't be the same size. So the smaller 645d sensor will
probably suffer from poor wide angle selection unless we buy the new
lenses, longer than ideal registry distance - and still be a good tool
to some specific market.

aps to 645 ( asumming they do ff 6x4.5, less than that might as well

market for FF digital (24x35mm)would be much greater appeal than

You're right. And even those without a prior investment may go for a
Pentax MF digital, since there are numerous excellent used lenses
available at very reasonable prices. The market isn't huge, but it's
big enough to be profitable. You can be sure that Hoya has given this
a lot of careful thought.
