DOF is a non issue with only a 1/3 to 1/2 stop max speed difference true. But if you have a full range of shutter speeds with flash sync, then DOF control does become an option with fill flash. If your shutter can sync at any speed you can use whatever stop you like to control DOF.

Depth of field is, for practical purposes, a non issue in this application.
