Yesterday at the SF stop of the Pentax K-7 Viral Tour, someone asked why it was so hard to find Pentax equipment in local stores. One of the reps said they were actively working to correct that, and gave two heartening examples.

1. Keeble & Shuchat, a big pro camera shop in San Jose was now stocking the K-7 and new lenses (a former coworker of mine who works there now had told me last winter they were dropping Pentax, so this is a nice about-face), and supposedly other camera shops are doing the same. I suppose your local mileage may vary, but this can only be a good sign in general.

2. Fry's Electronics, a (mostly) west coast chain of GIANT electronics stores, is now carrying the K-7 and accessories. This is awesome for a couple reasons. First, in a recession, lots of people go to places like Fry's to find deals, so the K-7 will get a little more exposure there. Second, when the day comes that I can afford my own K-7 (I have a K-7 poster on the wall now as motivation), I'll be able to buy it locally. I much prefer that to ordering from the east coast.
