Triggering the flash should be possible. controlling the light is the real problem. It's usable If it has manual settings like 1/4 and 1/16 of full power. I used a small chinese ring flash (full power only) for many years. The effect is allways the same: pitch black backgrounds. I now use the new PTTL ringflash. Much better because now I can use fill in flash from the ring.
