I checked both serial numbers first thing upon their return. 
I called Pentax customer service to let them know about the question and their 
preliminary response was the implication that the information might have been a 
result of using a high count memory card by the repair service. They made a 
note to follow up.
Whatever the cause, I mentioned the repair service advised that regardless of 
the reason, they wouldn't be able to turn the counter back.
Obviously, it won't matter unless I decide to sell it, but I let Pentax know I 
am displeased and anxious to learn the cause.
