Subject: Uzbek photographer on trial
This is rather an alarming story:

Some countries seem to lack self-confidence. I have frequently been asked
while abroad not to photograph 'backward' aspects of a country. This
typically means beggars, but often extends to normal traditional life,
especially rural, as if the retention of such aspects were shameful and
the
only things to be proud of were hideous tower blocks and nuclear power
stations.
Agreed, an alarming story, and the comments from the investigating officials
reveal all their insecure assumptions about their country and people. Very
alarming indeed. Cheers, Christine
