I personally think e-bay is a "thief's dream come true". One is basically
anonymous. If one was selling stolen goods, they could claim they bought it
somewhere else.

In particular, selling an item as damaged with a very low price would tend
to dispel suspicion.

How would one find out if the item was stolen? Asking for the serial number
would not do anything. If a dishonest transaction were in the works, the
seller simply would not answer. At the same time, the real owner is VERY
unlikely to buy his property a second time around. They are wanting to get
it back, not pay for it a second time.

I'm not down on e-bay, or this particular transaction. I do think fencing
ill-gained merchandise on e-bay would be easy, with probably little chance
of getting caught.

If I was robbed, how many hours, days, weeks, months would I spend looking
on e-bay for MY camera? Not many, it's spilt milk.

I think e-bay is just fine... I'm just saying that IMHO, some things don't
add up with this seller. Not criticizing the purchase or anything else. If
I could get a 67II for $700, I'd do it.
