Sharing a shooting position with a photographer using a D3, I couldn't believe how loud his camera was. He commented that my Metz 60 flash was louder when it fired than my K7 was.
In my experience, the only dslr-like camera that can beat the low loudness of a K-7 is a non-dslr camera. The Leica M9 is a bit better, but only provided you enable its delayed shutter cocking option. Otherwise it has a disturbing bog of a noise, reminiscent of film advance.
