Hi,

it's a bed/sitting room. When young people first leave (their parents')
home they often rent a bedsit. Generally it's one room with a bed in
it and a couple of chairs. Shared bathroom & kitchen with other people in
the same house. Hell on Earth.

Many towns have areas where a lot of the houses have been converted
into bedsits. These areas are called bedsitter-land.

TV programmes about people living in these places were common in the
1970s. These are bedsit-set-sitcoms*. If they're broadcast on
satellite channels they go via bedsit-set-sitcom-sat**.
