You're clicking too much. :) Mouse over the image and you'll see the cursor become a magnifying glass. Click anywhere on the image and it loads bigger, on a black bgnd.

Then you can use keyboard shortcuts: eg left and right arrow-keys will take you back and forth through the images sequentially.

Flickr's never had the best or most clear UI, but I think it's better featured now anyway.

And this guy's portraits are very nice. He does have a tendency to center them all in landscape, which is a bit tiresome. Minor nit.
