Bill, Hope you get your K5 back and pleased that you liked the 645D.
Yup, it's back. Turns out the dumb b!tch knew she had someone else's camera when she got home last night but decided not to do anything about it until this morning.
Arrogant cow.
Here's my overarching question, one that you can't probably answer authoritatively, after a one-time hands-on: Is the 645D any more than a K7 with a sensor that's closed to 3x the size? Not that it isn't appealing... I certainly see the attractiveness of even that, image quality wise. If resolution trumps all on the technical side, then given the K7's electronics, the 645D itself could prove to be quite good. At the price though, half of what I paid for my last 1-yr old vehicle, + complement of lenses... hmm. If we traded two wives in for the camera would you split it 50/50 with me?
In most respects it seems to be closer to the K5 with a big sensor. There are a few nice touches, such as dual card slots which can be programmed for the camera to write different formats to each, so one could write jpegs to one card and RAW to the other, for example. The viewfinder is a thing of beauty after the somewhat tunnel like APS-C finders. Viewfinders is one of those things that Pentax has always done well at, and the 645 is just plain glorious. It isn't a quick camera. I didn't check it's drive speed, it just isn't that type of machine, but it certainly takes it's time to write files. More to the point, it seems that way, but upon looking at the files when I transferred them to my computer, the DNGs are over 50mb each, and the jpegs that I shot are around 18mb. This is enough data to slow down any camera.
Sure, I'll split it with you, but I get to go first. William Robb -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
