Can anyone recommend any good photography/Pentax shops in the North > Saddle River area (or in Manhattan I guess, as I'll be travelling around > the city) I patronize two places. 1) B&H Photo carries just about everything at about the lowest available prices. (34 th St. and 9th Avenue.) A great place to look around, too -- huge operation, though, so it can be confusing at first. 2) Adorama. (18th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue.) Comparable to B&H, stocks just about everything you may want but not as big a shop. You will find detailed ads for both places in the major photo magazines in the US (e.g., Popular Photography, Shutterbug) and both have web sites. Note that they both are major mail-order houses. If you live in New Jersey and know what you want, you can order by mail and you avoid the NY sales tax (8 1/4%). I believe you also can avoid the tax by buying in the shop but having the merchandise delivered to NJ. Take the stuff with you and you have to pay the tax even though you live out of state. You must pay shipping charges, of course, but they may come to less than the tax amount. May be worth making the calculation for large purchases. > 2. Where should I buy and process films? Again, both stock just about everything, store the stuff properly and their prices are about as low as you will find. I usually have E-6 processed at Baboo Color Lab, 37 W. 20 St (conveniently near Adorama). They also do C-41 but I have not used them for that very much. I don't know about B&W since I always did my own when I did it at all. I don't know current prices. Note that this area of Manhattan has many other pro labs as well -- it is known as "the photo district," and there are -- I am sure -- a lot of good alternatives. Worth walking around the area and window shopping a bit, I think. Bob Harris New York City - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
