It's really not that difficult to adjust. If you happen to already have two polarizers, then it doesn't hurt anything to try it out.
The biggest problem that you get is that you need to set a custom white balance. This was taken with two polarizers and a 2 stop ND filter. http://www.flickr.com/photos/alohadave/5008644394/ Note the wonky color (which I didn't correct for on-scene and was unable to correct in post). If you are a B&W fan, then the color cast isn't that big of a deal. It's about 8 stops of light reduction and allowed for a 15 second exposure in broad daylight. You pretty much need a way to block any light from entering the viewfinder to be able to see anything through it.
