Mark, it would /really/ surprise me if after so many cameras with exactly 1.53 crop factor, Pentax decided to introduce K-5 with slightly different crop factor.

Boris, while usually stating 1.5 as the nominal crop factor for Pentax DLSR's, the actual factor can vary according to the sensor in use (taking into account both its true size and the masked off pixels). This is a new sensor, hence it can well sport a new crop factor. Then, the different crop factors among the manufacturers using the same sensor can depend on:
1 - Number of effective pixels used.
2 - Rounding off for preventing odd data such as 1.5274 crop.
3 - Marketing (which can suggest a different rounding off, for the sake of looking different from other manufacturers).
