Prior to the ES and ES II there was an Electro Spotmatic. Made only for the 
Japanese market.
This one had not so good/reliable electronics. So I guess it's important not to 
confuse the ES with the older Electro Spotmatic. So I prefere the Electronic 
Shutter explanation.

BTW: I s there a screw mount web site - similar to the K-Mount web site?

Anyway I think the ES is a fine camera. Its seems very easy to use. I can't 
believe it's almost 40 years old :-)
