The survey company i worked for used Leica equipment for about 99.9% of their work. Proven reliablility and the transits and total stations worked at -35C. In 1994, the powers that be thought they would save money and buy into the Sokkia system of total stations. Less money, did almost the same job, but with more steps to get to the results.(almost like a Canon Dslr menu setup) They had a Q&A with the party chiefs and the one question i asked the sales rep was, "do they work at -35C.??" Answer, "They should" Result, they did not.
