I've seen it written that Pentax suggests using the back edge of the top or bottom plate, minus a fat 2mm, to define the film plane. With the back open, you can make an exact measurement from the inner guide rails to the baseplate edge. I just measured 3 LXs, 2 MXs and a Program-A and they all measured 8/100ths of an inch (5/64ths)(2.15mm) with a "Calibrated in the USA by Spievak" stainless steel 6" ruler at 20 degrees centigrade, the ruler's standard. My technique was to lay another ss ruler's edge across the open back of the cameras from the top plate's back edge to the bottom plate's back edge (after removing any motor drives, as they tend to stick out a bit more), then drop the other calibrated ruler onto the top and bottom film plane rails (not the guide rails that keep the film centered) to get the measurement. I'd be more accurate, but my depth micrometers are both buried in storage 10 miles from here. :-) JoMac, Pentaxian "Pentax, Quadraphonic, Betamax, Macintosh" and above the rest. k t, s e n Living life a w o almost parallel to, r yet ever so slightly o u t -------> f - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
