I'm no expert at it but I'd say you should avoid (hot) studio lights with the ice 
creams and work very fast...

Aside for that I think you'll need an adequate set (backdrop, workbench, etc.). Being 
yours not particularly reflective subjects you shouldn't have problems with the flash 
but perhaps you can the light from it bounce somewhere in order to get a softer 
lighting.

I hope you get to eat the surviving subject when you're done with them...
