If I remember correctly, there is only an LED indicator in the viewfinder. If you are in manual, it indicates whatever speed has been manually selected with the "up/down" buttons and won't change when you alter the aperture. In automatic exposure mode the indication should move as the aperture is changed. Recently, there was a URL given for owner's handbooks downloadable from the Pentax web site.
