Thanks, Chris! I commented a bit on stalking techniques in some earlier relies just now - but a lot of it is perseverance, patience, and a willingness to get down on the ground and shoot horizontal (or as close to it as possible) when they perch just a foot or so above the ground. Hot summer days (which last Saturday was not) when they perch 2 to 4 feet above ground are great, but often it is just an exercise in 'wet belly photography' - to quote Tony Sweet. (If he ever got a reality show, he could call it that...)
