Take a look at http://www.youdrivewhat.com for some of the more "interesting" modern instances. The fad I find least fathomable is "donking" your "ride" (painting it up with logos and such from some product, like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, like the product manufacturer painted it up as an ad).
