> Is it OK to use a 3v lithium battery in an LX or should I stick to > 2 x 1.5v's ?
I don't know exactly what is the best LX battery arrangement, but I've used pairs of button cells (both alkaline and silver) as well as the 3-Volt Lithium cells, and they all work fine for me (both in my LX's and in my other bodies (except for the ME F, where four separate 1.5-Volt button cells have to be used). I think I've tended to use the Lithium cells more and more over the past few years, since they seem to be easier to find in the local stores here and generally cost less than two A76's do. I do see two cold-weather advantages to using the 3-Volt Lithium cells, too. First, it is my impression that they seem to stand up to the cold better than do either alkalines or silvers - I seem to be less likely to run into battery failure outside in the winter with a Lithium cell installed. Then, if it is cold enough that I have to start swapping batteries back and forth (inside shirt pocket to camera and back), it's a lot easier of handle a single fat 3-Volt cell than it is to handle separate tiny 1.5-Volt buttons, especially with numb-from-the-cold fingers. Speaking of cold weather, batteries, and the LX, I recently obtained a nifty solution for using an LX body in very cold weather. It's an "LX Battery Remote Cord" that plugs into the LX's battery compartment on one end, and has a little battery chamber on the other end that plugs into a pocket inside a warm coat. This is a dandy way to energize a frigid LX body with a nice toasty warm battery source. The only disadvantages I can see (other than the fact that I will have to have a flexible cord running from inside my coat to the bottom of the LX) are that I won't be able to mount a winder and I won't be able to use a body case (unless I were willing to do a little surgery on the bottom of the case). It is a bit of an annoyance to have a wire dangling between an LX and me, but I may find that I can conveniently stuff the battery chamber end of the cord up inside my right sleeve, instead of having to run it over to my torso, when I'm walking along carrying the body (with a Grip B and a wrist strap) in my right hand. (When I'm carrying the body by its strap around my neck, it would probably make more sense to run the cord to my torso, I guess.) Some experimentation will be in order next winter... I also have one of those remote battery chambers (with cord) for the LX winder, but, while it may help to keep a set of AA's warm to run a cold winder, it doesn't help at all for powering the LX body's metering and shutter. And, as I noted before, I won't be able to use a winder (with or without remote AA batteries) on an LX body when I am using the body's remote battery cord. Oh well...
