Thanks for the input, Bob S.
I already know the misery of seeing what I once thought was "pretty
good" among my work. My love of saturation was really something to
behold in my earliest attempts. I've managed to take a few that I'm
actually proud of, but am amazed at what I once eagerly showed to friends.
I've learned a lot just looking at the work of others here on PDML. It
can be very humbling.

Walt,
I think Bob W is right on having enough quality images, but I wouldn't
let that stop me! Select the best you've got and make a book of them.
You'll appreciate your progress in future years.
I got great benefit from participating in the PUG in the film days. My
best pictures just weren't good enough. Thru trial and error, I got
better pictures and better scans. The first pictures are embarrassing
when I look in the archives.
I've got to 'do' to get better.

I'm thinking about putting together a photo book from this theme at
some point in the future, when I feel I have enough decent images to
constitute a reasonable collection. I'm thinking 24 would be a decent
number, but wondered what others might think. I'm mainly just putting
together a collection that friends and acquaintances might consider
purchasing -- possibly through j-album or something similar.
Any suggestions on the photos, or putting together a collection would
be greatly appreciated.
I think it would be very difficult to put together 24 pictures of high
enough quality on any subject. The RPS distinctions require 10, 15 then 20
pictures in a portfolio for you to move through the different levels of
distinction, and it really is hard to get a coherent essay of high enough
quality. Have a look at some essays in National Geographic and count the
number of photos - it's rarely that many. 24 is very ambitious - you might
be better advised to choose several different subjects and make a book of
several smaller essays.

Apologies for the previous blank response. I was insufficiently caffeinated
at the time.
Thanks for the information, Bob.
I guess I wasn't thinking big enough in terms of quality, mostly because I
didn't foresee the project as being of interest to anyone other than a few
friends who know me personally. But, I reckon if you're going to go to the
trouble of putting together a collection, it might as well be a good one
rather than a token gesture.
At which point, my biggest issue is lacking the perspective to know what's
good enough and what ain't. So, it could be a few years. Which is OK with
me. I've got more time than talent.
