I think that you can adapt the Spot F to take 1.5 volt cells with just a bit
of plastic to keep the cell properly insulated and from rattling around in
the battery compartment.  There was a whole thread in the past about the
circuit design in the Spot F which allows the meter to function properly
with higher voltage batteries.
The camera itself is very stingy on batteries so walking
around with the lens cap off while shooting isn't that big a deal.  Just
remember to cap the camera when you store it.
