Walt, Both panos are well done!
Just a few comments (grumblings?): 1. dpi has no sense unless the image is printed (or displayed) on a particular size. 2. 6171x1737 can be produced with just two frames with K7/K5/K10/... I am not sure what is the angle of view of the iPod camera, but from what I've seen, it looks like it is not exremely wide, - so it can be covered by a reasonable DSLR lens.
