Earlier this year, I caused major damage to my beloved Denon AVR-3803, a
former top-of-the-line surround receiver. One of those stupid mistakes a
professional audio engineer would never make... haha!

Disconnected some external equipment with an obvious earthing problem
and literally saw sparks fly. With the 3803 being DC-coupled from its
inputs through to the speaker terminals, there was a real carnage among
its semiconductor population. 

The local official Denon repair place fixed it or a mere 130 euros.
Maybe you should find out if there's a Denon repair workshop in your
area before you bin it.
