One interesting aspect of the K100D is that it has a very weak IR blocking filter. For $14 B&H sells a 3" square polyester IR filter: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/292664-REG/LEE_Filters_87CP3_3_x_3_Infrared.html If you put it in front of the flash, when shooting with the K100 you can get some interesting results: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/collections/72157603983302091/ I eventually had my FZ20 converted to IR. IR focuses differently than visible light, and with a mirrorless you don't have to recalibrate things for focusing in IR. I would love to get a K-01 and remove the IR blocking filter. I'd be able to put whatever filter in front of the lens I wanted and still be able to see what the camera was seeing, and focus accurately whether I was shooting IR, visible light or both. Unfortunately it seems as if rather than removing the old IR blocking filter, he just put an IR pass filter over it, because the effective ISO in bright sunlight is about 8, rather than 80. I found myself needing to use two filtered flashes to get enough light. Focusing was a challenge because there wasn't enough IR to see to focus by. http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157606256975462/ I eventually scored on a couple arrays of IREDs, and I hacked the circuit boards to run them full time off a 6V gelcell to enable me to focus: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157608109191149/ This setup works OK: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/collections/72157606110993706/ There are some interesting effects of shooting in IR. First of all most skin blemishes don't show up in IR, so I've had women love how the images clear up their skin. Also, cotton is not quite transparent, but passes IR a lot more than synthetics, so if a woman is wearing a polyester bra under a cotton shirt, it looks like you can see right through the shirt. So you have to be careful not to post photos that inadvertently show bras or panties. What I discovered was that rather than being a mediocre IR camera, with the IRED array, my FZ20 was a rather cool IR camcorder: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/collections/72157607728280926/ Martin and Renee Norred were photographing with an IR converted SLR (Canon IIRC) last weekend, and this is their photo set: http://gallery.rabscuttle.com/index.php?/category/62 So, yes I've thought about it, and if I had the money, I'd have an IR enabled camera. > Long ago a friend gave me some shots he captured for the yearbook > at a dark music weekend.
