I was perfectly happy with manual focus Pentax LX and MX cameras for most of my photographic career. I had stopped working for newspapers long before auto focus cameras were de regueur, and my results with digital are better than I had with film about 90% of the time, so yes I could easily get by without there ever being a single improvement in the technology currently available.

Thom Hogan asks an interesting question today (Feb 7, 2013)

"you can't buy anything photographic ever that doesn't exist today. Do
you just stay with what you have, or do you shuffle your gear to a
different set? Why? If you can answer that question you start to see
where you think you need more help from the tool, rather than just
more practice with the tool."
